Molar Stainless Steel Earrings - Arch

$38.00

Laser cut stainless steel with hand painted background.

I have a running history with tooth imagery in my art, stemming from a combination of morbid curiosity and sentimentality.
I’m always attracted to keepsakes, tokens, and mementos, enough that depicting these items in my jewellery practice in addition to my printmaking fits perfectly.
The molar earrings go out to everyone that loves bits and bones and bodies.

I hand finish every one of these, building up the background in layers, and carefully sanding the edges of each individual piece. This means that the ones you get might look a little different to those in the photos, as the colour settles a little differently with each pair.

These are 35mm tall and 23mm wide, not including hooks or hoops, and each one weighs around 3.4 grams.

Earring hardware comes in your choice of either 20mm stainless steel wire hoops, or standard stainless steel hooks.

While the descriptions are almost the same, the two styles of ‘Molar’ stainless steel earrings have different tooth illustrations on them, so make sure to go and check out the other one too!

The brushed finish of the steel makes it hard to see any small dings or scratches you may get if you wear these out often.
While being made of a solid piece of metal makes these very sturdy, extra care must be taken to avoid damaging the background fill on each piece. I use porcelain paint to add in the colour, and heat set it which makes it resistant to scratches. However, I’ve found from experience that wearing these often in damp environments (showers, swimming, exercise etc) and storing them in the bathroom makes them susceptible to scrapes again over time.
